The Doodle Academy High School Mural Project

The motto “Be the Change” fueled the conversations and dreams of Alena Jennings, owner of The Doodle Academy. While dreaming and planning last spring, ideas for colors, murals and opportunities fueled conversations with local artist Kortny Miller aka Red Dirt Rosie. The high school mural project is a dream of change coming to fruition this summer here in Ponca City.

This project was designed in hopes of providing students with an educational opportunity to learn about the process of wall painting as well as covering up illegal graffiti. Students learned the proper ways to pitch an idea to building owners, acquire supplies, and communicate with law enforcement to receive clearance through the proper channels.

The mural can be seen nestled between buildings in a small parking lot on Cleveland Avenue between 5th and 4th Streets. This colorful mural was painted this week by local high school students looking for artistic opportunities. The design was created by Kortny Miller with the ambition to brighten up the area and inspire those who see it.

The Doodle Academy is looking for more places that would like to support budding young artists. If you own a building, have an opportunity, or would like to financially support these opportunities for change, please contact The Doodle Academy at 580-309-1582.
