Thales and CS GROUP will develop a countermeasures system for parade drones

Thales and CS GROUP are working with their partners in the French and European defense industrial and technological base to develop the capability of the PARADE program to provide permanent deployable protection of critical infrastructures against drone threats. The program follows an open call for tenders which was awarded following a European call for tenders launched by the DGA in 2021 to strengthen the drone countermeasures (counter-drone) capabilities of the French armies. .

Millions of new drones will enter the skies over the next 20 years, creating an extremely complex aviation ecosystem and raising significant safety and security challenges. To cope with this constantly changing threat environment, the consortium led by Thales and CS GROUP will provide a scalable, modular and multi-mission drone countermeasures system to protect people, fixed military sites or deployed installations at the stranger. The system can also be used by armed forces to help protect civil and military events, people and infrastructure, especially during large gatherings. PARADE will be a multi-mission modular system that can be deployed temporarily by the armed forces to protect a fixed site or in the context of military operations abroad.

The fight against drones is a priority for the French government as preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympics continue. The partnership between Thales, a recognized player in civil and military air operations for more than 40 years, and CS GROUP, an integrator of critical drone countermeasure systems in France, is fully in line with the missions carried out within the framework of the country’s air security special. devices (DPSA2) intended to provide enhanced protection during sensitive events. PARADE will bring additional detection and response capabilities to the DPSA, improving the security of two upcoming international sporting events taking place in France: – the Rugby World Cup 2023 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024 – for which the fight against drones is a government priority.

The contract, initially for the first order, concerns the acquisition of six PARADE drone countermeasure systems. With the contribution of French SMEs such as CerbAir, Exavision and MC2 Technologies, as well as the Dutch company Robin, the PARADE system will provide decision support, analysis of complex situations and the ability to neutralize micro-drones and mini- drones. The program contract also includes operator training and system and equipment maintenance and upgrades.

The PARADE system provides permanent 360° site protection and is designed to be easily transported from site to site by road, air or sea, greatly increasing its scope of use and speed of deployment.

The first PARADE systems will be delivered to the DGA in the year following the launch of the program.

Expert in air supremacy, Thales offers integrated solutions to protect airspace, citizens and infrastructures, and will draw on its experience as a systems integrator and its know-how in air defence, cybersecurity and digital architectures. CS GROUP is a pioneer in the fight against drones and has been deploying operational solutions since 2016 to meet civil and military needs. The company develops modular, scalable, interoperable and cyber-secure systems built around a command and control capability that uses artificial intelligence and data fusion technologies. to better understand this ever-evolving threat.

The PARADE system provides permanent 360° site protection and is designed to be easily transported from site to site by road, air or sea, greatly increasing its scope of use and speed of deployment. This solution could also be used for mixed civil-military operations, for example to protect critical infrastructures such as military bases in France or in overseas theaters of operations.

“Thales counter-drone solutions ensure safety and security at all levels of military and civilian airspace. The expertise and experience of our industrial ecosystem and our partnerships with French SMEs offer us real opportunities to innovate and further enrich our value proposition. The consortium led by Thales and CS GROUP allows us to offer a drone countermeasures solution that meets the requirements of the DGA and the French armies and ensures the highest level of safety and security for people in large gatherings”, Thomas Got, Managing Director, Integrated Airspace Protection Systems, Thales.

“CS GROUP has been involved in the fight against drones for more than eight years and actively follows the latest technological advances in order to effectively respond to the evolving threat of drones and to meet the associated operational requirements, from event security to scale to counter-terrorism and the protection of troops on overseas deployments The partnership between CS GROUP and Thales provides a holistic view of aviation security at all levels to ensure continuous situational awareness and determine the best way to respond to threats. We are very proud that our consortium has been selected for the PARADE program and that our solution contributes to ensuring the safety of people during major events”, Marie de Saint Salvy, Deputy General Manager , CS Group.
