Port of LA Issues IS/NOP for West Harbor Modification Project

The Port of Los Angeles has issued an Initial Study/Notice of Readiness (IS/NOP) – the first step in the environmental review process – for the West Harbor Alteration Project on the Los Angeles waterfront.

The proposed West Harbor Alteration Project includes the development of an outdoor amphitheater of approximately 108,000 square feet as well as an entertainment venue on approximately 2.5 acres in the southern part of the former site of the public market project from San Pedro (now called West Harbor). The amphitheater would offer up to 6,200 seats and host around 100 ticketed events per year, usually from April to November. The venue could also accommodate smaller, local community, non-profit and sponsored events throughout the year.

The project would also replace a previously proposed 100-foot-diameter Ferris wheel with an attraction tower approximately 150 feet high by 50 feet wide.

The IS/NOP is intended to solicit comments, which helps to identify any potential environmental impacts and to suggest possible alternatives for the project that can be incorporated into the Environmental Impact Statement (EIR).

The Port will hold a virtual scoping meeting via Zoom to receive feedback on the IS/NOP on Tuesday, May 3 at 5 p.m. No registration is required. Simultaneous Spanish translation services will be provided.
