Planned I-495 NEXT Expressway North Expansion Project Updates

MCLEAN, VA – As the Capital Beltway lanes are realigned, project updates on the Interstate 495 Express Lanes North Extension will be given at two upcoming meetings.

The Virginia Department of Transportation, Express Lanes operator Transurban and design-build contractor will host both meetings June 6-7. The meeting will provide updates on upcoming construction activities, a preliminary construction schedule, anticipated construction impacts, project design changes, an interactive map with construction, design and plans, and the coordination with George Washington Memorial Parkway projects and Maryland I-270 New American Legion Bridge Traffic Relief Plan. A presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

The first meeting will be this coming Monday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Langley High School Auditorium, 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA (enter through Door 14).

A virtual meeting will follow on Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Residents can join the meeting by phone at 1-517-466-2023 (toll-free) or 1-866-692-4530 (toll-free) with code dial 242 197 66151 or via WebEx:

The I-495 Express Lanes North Expansion Project will extend the existing express lanes from the Dulles Toll Road/Access Road interchange to the George Washington Memorial Parkway near the American Legion Bridge. Project update meetings come as VDOT permanently closes the left shoulder lane and realigns the other lanes. This reconfiguration will allow new bridges to be constructed over a wider ring road at Old Dominion Drive, Georgetown Pike and Live Oak Drive.

The estimated opening date for the Express Lanes expansion is 2025. To stay up to date with the project, visit
