Comprised of nine members from Korea, China and Japan, the group consists of the final winners of Mnet’s “Girls Planet 999” idol competition program. The show aired between August and October 2021.

A project group started under Swing Entertainment, Kep1er is expected to remain active for 2.5 years before going their separate ways.

The group hosted an online media showcase on Monday afternoon, showcasing their new album and performing “Wa Da Da”, the title song from the new release.

“We are thrilled and happy to finally make this debut that we have all imagined,” said group leader Choi Yujin.

Like its name, “First Impression”, the album is a six-track set that “portrays the universe and the different forces that Kep1er is about to unleash. This is the start of our adventure to make our dreams come true. , so look forward to them, ”explained Japanese member Mashiro.

Topping the album is the song “Wa Da Da”, which, according to Choi Yujin, is “a big room house genre dance floor, which shows Kep1er’s unique energetic and charming charm”.

The name “Kep1er” brings together “kep” and number 1 to embody the group’s goals to achieve their dream and become the best. Extending their identity from the “Girls Planet” show, the group took the name of 17th century German astronomer Johannes Kepler.

As winners of a fan-chosen survival show, Kep1er had taken the K-pop scene by storm before his debut. The album has sold over 70,000 pre-order copies.

“We couldn’t believe it when we first heard the news. Kep1er is there thanks to our fans who support us from “Girls Planet”. We are very grateful, ”said Huening Bahiyyih, US-Korean member. Huening Bahiyyih is the sister of Huening Kai, a member of boy band Tomorrow X Together.

Not only the fans but the competition’s master coaches including K-pop singers Tiffany Young and Sunmi were also very supportive of their debut even after the show.

“I remember the masters telling us not to be afraid of making mistakes and doing their best to stay confident on stage,” said Xiao Ting, the only Chinese member of the group.

According to Seo Youngeun, they hope to become like the iconic K-pop group Girls’ Generation.

“Our role model is Coach Tiffany Young’s group, Girls’ Generation. It’s amazing how the unique strengths of each member come together in a perfect performance, ”she said.

With members having completed extensive training periods at different agencies prior to participating in the program and leader Yujin taking part in the program while affiliated with another group, CLC, members said they put a lot of effort into the program. communication for better teamwork.

“We were already pretty close after the program, and to become more cohesive as a team, we tried to have a lot of conversations. We did our best to have as much time as possible to talk, both in and out of our dorm, ”said Kang Yeseo.

Members said many K-pop idols praised their debuts as well.

Former SM Entertainment intern Kim Chaehyun said members of Aespa contacted her, expressing their excitement to finally meet Chaehyun as a K-pop artist, while Huening Bahiyyih said her brother had congratulated her not only herself, but also her group mates.

Japanese member Hikaru said that Kep1er’s greatest strength is in his energy and performance.

“We have the energy to make our dream come true, and we will show that energy through our performance,” Hikaru said.
