Free Fares for Clean Air Day on Prince George’s Transit System – Prince George Daily News

Wednesday, June 8 is Clean Air Day, and the City of Prince George and BC Transit are offering free fares all day to help everyone make an eco-friendly transportation choice.

The Government of Canada proclaimed Clean Air Day in 1999 as part of Canadian Environment Week (the first week of June). The aim is to raise awareness of air quality and climate change, and to encourage people to reduce their individual greenhouse gas emissions. A simple way to do this is to encourage everyone to choose sustainable modes of transport, such as walking, cycling or taking the bus.

On May 24, BC Transit announced that the first batch of electric buses and charging equipment will arrive at the organization as part of the goal to transition to an all-electric fleet by 2040. Electric buses feature many benefits — the most important being that they easily use available renewable electricity, which translates to near-zero emissions from operations. A potential of 500 heavy buses should be replaced over the next 10 years.
