NAMSAI, October 6: Former director of the government upper secondary school, Tezu and chairman of the Tai Khamti tonal writing committee, Chaunoi Inkalit Mannou died at around 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday at his residence in Namsai.
He was 79 years old.
Mannou was admitted to a private hospital in Dibrugarh, Assam, where he recovered and was taken home. However, her health began to deteriorate.
Born in 1942, the late Mannou was one of the most learned people in Khamti society. He graduated from college in 1968 with the distinction of being the founding group of JN College, Pasighat, East Siang District. He joined government services in 1969 and retired in 2009 as the renowned director of GHSS, Tezu.
He had made a huge contribution to combating social ills and uplifting the community in the fields of education, culture and language. He is also credited with developing and finalizing
Tai Khamti’s revised tonal writing as chair of the committee. He was also an advisor to the Tai Khamti Singpho Council (TKSC).
In a condolence message, the TKSC expressed its shock and sadness at the loss of one of its scholar and senior members.
“With his sudden and untimely demise, Tai Khamti society, in particular, has lost a great personality, guide and guardian. The enormous void of his absence will remain for a long time and will be difficult to fill soon, ”the TKSC said in a message of condolence.
