The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has completed the construction of a first 1 MWp of a proposed 5 MWp floating photovoltaic system on the Bui reservoir.
This makes it the first of its kind in West Africa.
A floating solar power plant is an innovative approach consisting in using photovoltaic modules on hydraulic infrastructures to conserve the ground while increasing the efficiency of the module.
In addition, water is also conserved due to reduced evaporation of water from the water body.
The plant can be installed on a pond, a lake, a reservoir or any other body of water.
Commenting on this, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana, who is also a legislator for Nsawam Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh congratulated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for this achievement.
He said this is an indication that the government is committed to green and renewable energy.
“This is a testament to the government’s commitment to green and renewable energies. Congratulations, Mr. Chairman, ”he said.
