Dimapur, April 22 (MExN): The Department of Food and Civil Supply (F&CS) in various parts of Nagaland celebrated “Anna Yojana and the Public Distribution System” under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
According to a state DIPR report, the celebration in Longleng District was held on April 21 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Room with Additional Deputy Commissioner (HQ) D Robin as a special guest.
The special guest reportedly claimed that the celebration was an opportunity for the people to express their gratitude to the government of India and Nagaland under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for taking the initiative to provide free rations. to poor beneficiaries during the COVID-19 crisis.
According to the DIPR report, ADC Robin also commended the managers and staff of the F&CS department for rendering their best service in reaching out to beneficiaries in the most difficult situations. He informed that the people of Longleng have greatly benefited from the program.
Speaking on behalf of fair price shops and beneficiaries, YB Angam expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister for initiating the “pro-people scheme” during the high COVID-19 period. He pointed out that the program had given hope and benefited the entire population, including non-cardholders, daily wage earners and people with physical disabilities, the report said. He also called on the people to cooperate fully with the government and seize the opportunity.
Giving a brief report on Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), ADS Longleng John KR Zeliang informed that the program which was launched in April 2020 is now in its sixth phase and has been extended from April 2022 to September 2022.
He said that PMGKAY is an additional allocation of food grains to all beneficiaries covered by the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) at no cost. The program is a pro-poor initiative and part of the economic response to COVID-19 to alleviate hardship faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by the COVID pandemic by providing supplementary food grains @ 5 kg per person per month, the ADS informed.
Earlier, a welcome address was offered by Y Alex Akai and a vote of thanks by ADS John KR Zeliang, while testimonies were shared by beneficiaries who attended the program, DIPR reported.
Zunheboto: A similar program also took place in Zunheboto district on April 22 with Deputy Commissioner Rahul Bhanudas Mali as a special guest, according to DIPR.
On occasion, the DC reportedly underscored the importance of the program, calling it the “best mechanism” to deliver aid and benefit the country’s poorest during times of immense hardship related to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Rahul mentioned that the central government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi could counter the dangerous effects of the pandemic with different policies and he acted as relief for various injuries,” the DIPR report said.
Deputy Director, F&CS Zunheboto, Kiyevi I Swu gave a brief report on the PMGKAY program and mentioned that the celebration will also continue in other districts in the state throughout April. The report was followed by testimonials from beneficiaries.
Urban GB Chairman Shiwoto Zhimo called on the SPF to continue its good work and implement government policies wisely, DIPR said.
The program which was organized by the F&CS department, Zunheboto, was chaired by Senior Inspector Sashilemla Pongen and the vote of thanks was delivered by Inspector Alovito Yepthomi.
